January Night

This is a double door showing the January night sky as seen facing west from somewhat south of Seattle. Polaris (the north star) is about in the center of the right panel. It doesn't show well but the milky way is Kokomo seedy glass with many fine air bubbles to contrast with the background Spectrum seedy with its larger, sparser bubbles. The colors of the stars are meant to designate the actual spectral type of the star. I used 2 different solders -- unleaded for the constellations and leaded for the rest. The contrast isn't great but you can see a difference on the actual window.

The window design started with scanning a star map from Sky and Telescope Magazine. In Corel Draw I used the scan as a background to plot the star positions and colors by referring to several other sources.
